What it is
Mystery Trails is a murder-mystery game for Android. The Case is fictional. The map is the street you are standing on. Somebody is dead, and the people who know why are scattered across a few hundred metres of the ground around you. There is no level select: the only way to reach a pin is to walk there.
How it plays
- Walk the map. Every Scene and every NPC is a pin. Get close enough and it unlocks. The walking is the game, not a loading screen.
- Search and interrogate. Comb a Scene for Evidence and question the people there. Testimony is not fact: it can be true, mistaken, or a lie.
- Build your Murder Board. Pin what you find and draw Links between the cards: contradicts, corroborates, places at, motive for.
- Then accuse. Name the culprit and show the Links that prove it. You can be wrong.
Tonight's Case: Low Water at the Anchor
Nell Garrow kept the books for every lock-up under the Clink Street warehouses. Tonight she went out the back of the Anchor to settle up with someone, and was found at the foot of the loading stairs with the tide out. Three people had reason to want her quiet. Find out which one was on those stairs.
In a browser with WebGL 2, this page is an ink map of Bankside drawn from OpenStreetMap, and you can walk it and play the Case.
No account, no ads
There is nothing to sign up for. The app has no ads and no analytics service. It uses your location to place you on the map and to open Scenes as you walk near them. Walk safely, stay aware of traffic, and never enter private property or unsafe places to reach a pin.
